Lady Gaga Talks About Her New Album ‘Mayhem,’ Reflects On Lessons Learned From Tony Bennett

Global pop music star Lady Gaga participated in the “Spotify Presents: Little Monsters” press conference in support of her newest studio album “Mayhem.”

She took time from her busy schedule to answer questions from her dedicated fans, followers, and supporters.

Lady Gaga on the concept for ‘Mayhem’

Affectionately known as “Mother Monster,” Lady Gaga noted that her latest studio offering is an integration of her real-life self coupled with her stage persona, which is a celebration of two things that don’t really go together… the tension between her softness and the intensity that she likes to bring to her music and to her stage performances.

“That’s the whole me,” she admitted. “For me, that’s my personal ‘Mayhem,’ otherwise known as exercises in chaos.”

The pop songstress shares that she conceptualizes performances or tours while listening to her own music; moreover, she has vivid visions of how her songs will come to life in music video, lives shows, and tours.

For this album, she did listen to some old demos but she decided not to use them, especially since every album is a representation of a particular moment in time for Lady Gaga.

Lady Gaga on her return to dark pop

Regarding her return to dark pop, she stated that “Mayhem” was the result of many months of hard work in the studio. The internationally-recognized artist returned to dark pop since it felt both “safe and familiar” despite being emotionally challenging.

Lady Gaga on the first and last song that she wrote for the album

She noted that “Vanish into You” was the first song she wrote for the album, and her Grammy award-winning duet “Die with a Smile” was the last one she wrote. “The album ended in a happy place, but it started out with an apocalyptic love song that is less hopeful,” she said.

Lady Gaga added that “Die With a Smile” has a sense of peace to it. “We can all bear a kind of personal chaos in our lives, and then find a sense of peace and stability,” she explained.

Lady Gaga on her favorite tour

When asked about her favorite tour, she responded, “I don’t know. When I did ‘The Fame Ball’ it was the first time I ever saw the fans. It was the most inexpensive tour, the low-budget tour, and my early tour.”

“That was when I met the Little Monsters for the first time, and then ‘The Monster Ball’ happened and everything. I would have to say ‘The Fame Ball’ because it was such a different grind,” she explained.

“Thank you for all the tours you’ve supported and come to. They’ve all been important to me,” she acknowledged.

“There will probably be something soon,” Lady Gaga hinted, thus making her fans excited about the possibility of a “Mayhem” Tour.
