Kansas Cancels Shows Following Singer’s Cancer Revelation

American rock band Kansas has cancelled two shows following the revelation that their singer, Ronnie Platt, has been diagnosed with thyroid cancer.

Platt, who has been singing with the band for a decade, announced his diagnosis on social media, assuring fans his cancer has been caught early.

“For all of you asking, Tuesday I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer but before everyone gets all excited, it has a 99 per cent survival rate. It has not spread. It’s contained to my thyroid. I just have to have my thyroid removed. Go through some rehab time and be right back in the saddle.”

Platt concluded by asking fans for “positive thoughts and prayers”, adding, “As it has been put to me, this is just a bump in the road and will be behind me very soon! So everyone please carry on!”

Ahead of the announcement the band nixed their Friday show in New Orleans citing “band illness”. They’ve also canceled a 1 March show in Louisiana for the same reason.

Kansas celebrated their 50th anniversary in 2023. The band is best known for the hit songs Carry On Wayward Son from 1976 and 1978’s Dust in the Wind.

Platt took over as lead singer of Kansas in 2014, replacing Steve Walsh. He is the former lead singer of the band Shooting Star.
