USF Football’s Atkins, Perry & Wright Selected for College Football Showcases

University of South Florida football student-athletes Sean Atkins (Viera), RJ Perry (Fairfield, Ala.) and Nay’Quan Wright (Miami) have been selected to perform in upcoming college football all-star showcases.

Atkins, the Bulls’ all-time career leader in receptions (200) and receiving yards (2,167), and Perry, an offensive tackle that started 18 games in two seasons with the Bulls, will compete in the College Gridiron Showcase & Symposium held in Fort Worth, Texas, Jan. 10-12. Each year, 250-300 athletes are selected for the three-day event and participate in controlled scrimmages and drills in front of an average of 150 scouts from the NFL, CFL, UFL, IFL, Arena Football One and the WWE.

In addition to exposure to scouts, CGS provides participants with a strong professional football education component that includes mentoring, life coaching, and seminars that will benefit them as they move forward in their professional lives in or outside of football. Seminars related to financial education, the life of a professional athlete, and on-and off-field player expectations are offered.

Wright, a running back who ran for 1,307 yards and 16 touchdowns and caught 32 passes for 174 yards in his two seasons with the Bulls, was selected to compete in the Trillion Tropical Bowl, with events held Jan. 16-19.

A premier FBS Division I college football all-star game, the event showcases the top college football seniors to NFL scouts and GM’s who travel from around the country. The weekend’s practices and events are held in Orlando, Fla., while this year’s 10th Anniversary Trillion Tropical Bowl game will be played on Sun. Jan. 19 at Municipal Stadium in Daytona Beach, Fla.

USF capped its second-straight winning season with a second-straight bowl victory, downing San Jose State 41-39 in a five-overtime thriller in the Hawai’i Bowl on Dec. 24. The Bulls are one of just 15 teams to have posted a bowl or College Football Playoff win in each of the past two seasons and the only one to have scored 40 or more points in each of those victories.
