Technology has been for the most part, very favorable to the growth and evolution of humanity. As a person who believes in science and facts, technology has given us answers to questions as old as humans themselves. Questions that without technology would remain at best, an educated guess and at worse, an opinion. An educated guess has something that most opinions will not have; education on the subject. Technology has also given us the worst gift of all, a platform to spew words to hurt people or spread information without facts, without truth, without much anything other than an opinion. Today we face an epidemic of humans that feel a need to comment on everything, especially things that have nothing to do with them. A day doesn’t go by without hearing another story about trolling, Internet bullies, or just low life people intentionally hurting others. I call these cowardly people the “Keyboard Cowboys” as they spread ignorant gibberish, hiding behind the Internet without consequences. We all know these cowards will never say a thing to the person’s face because, in that situation, there will be consequences. Rule of thumb, if not asked for your “opinion” that means, it’s not wanted. I will always believe in the first amendment, but the abuse of this amendment is something I will never understand, nor will I ever believe in. Can you imagine if there were guidelines for the first amendment other than being able to turn on your computer, or open your mouth?
As I get older in life, I find technology has proven, has exposed, and has preyed on how flawed and weak humans indeed can be. It’s a fascinating study in human behavior when a person is given the technology to connect, yet chooses to disconnect in the worst possible way. Instead of disconnecting from the noise purposely created to control thoughts, decisions or actions, the human is disconnecting with humans. This disconnect if not stopped, can over time have catastrophic consequences. What happened to love thy neighbor, or treat others, as you would like to be treated? Those thoughts and ideas seem to be a distant past or maybe something that people need to be taught or reminded again. I’m going to use dating as an example of this human disconnect. Once upon a time dating included, picking up a phone, remember a number, dialing that number and speaking to a human that actually wanted to hear from you. I know crazy right? Today, the new normal is sending an ignorant, stupid, pathetic, ignorant and ignorant message on social media to someone you don’t know that consists of the words; you hot attached to a dick pic. When the smart woman doesn’t reply, she will then be the target for more harassing, disrespectful messages. If you are a man that has done this, you are a pathetic, sad, embarrassment to humanity, and should be sterilized to prevent future you…I’m sorry that I used the word man in that sentence… You’re NOT a man at all…
Technology has put the world at our fingertips. Humans should be smarter, more in touch with reality, more cautious with information and more interested in learning the truth, but a few minutes on social media will prove the complete opposite. Social media is very ironic in two distinct ways, the first is the presence of the word Social in its moniker, and the second is the one thing that has more power than social media itself, is the one thing that social media will eventually destroy; humans. I’m not saying it will be the cause of human extinction, but judging by the effect it has on humans already, the future doesn’t look that promising. It’s disturbing to think that something as complex and advanced as the human brain can be so easily manipulated. The question is, are you being manipulated, or doing the manipulation? As we live in the present day, all humans are manipulated on a daily basis because of technology and the addiction to its byproducts. The cell phone is no less addicting than, drugs, alcohol, sex or any other addiction. I know that sounds like a bold statement, but apply the cell phone to the very definition of addiction.
Addiction: the fact or condition of being addicted to a particular substance, thing or activity. Dependency, craving, habit, weakness, compulsion
I hope technology never stops and quite frankly it can’t. As we have seen in the past, as we see in the present day, as we look into the future, we will always see someone trying to do bad with something created for good. I’ve stopped trying to figure out why people don’t understand the difference between right and wrong. Scientists believe the brain has as many as fifty thousand thoughts a day, so I say make them count, and more importantly, make them your own. What you say today will be there tomorrow and will be remembered forever, so use your first amendment right wisely.
If you don’t take the time to research the truth about something you read on the Internet, then you’re only as smart as the person writing it. Many times this has proven to be not too smart.
