Leann Rimes surprised her fans with the release of another re-imagined track: international #1 hit “Can’t Fight the Moonlight”, available across all digital platforms now. Previewed yesterday by Yahoo!, the track was produced by Darrell Brown and Rimes, and originally written by the world-renowned songwriter Diane Warren. “Can’t Fight the Moonlight” quickly became an worldwide phenomenon when it served as the theme song for the iconic 2000 film Coyote Ugly, where the Grammy award winning vocalist sang four out of the dozen tracks on the soundtrack and even made a cameo appearance in the movie.
Rimes explains:
“My crazy talented friend, Diane (Warren) tells me CFTM is the most successful song (so far) of her entire writing career… which is absolutely wild to ponder when you consider all the massive hits that woman has written and all the incredible artists that have recorded her music. CFTM had a life of it’s own and found it’s way around the world, from the U.K to Australia and back around to the USA again, to become a worldwide anthem and #1 record in 11 countries. This re-imagined rendition, like the others we have released, came about when preparing for my Remnants tour. My band and I fell into a natural groove with a retro, funk arrangement. On stage, it’s hands down the most fun song to perform….it seemed only fitting to re-imagine the live performance for you all to get the full, funked out, high vibe feels we experienced every night when we perform. Hope everyone loves jamming out to the re-imagined version after all these years of their love affair with this song.”
“Can’t Fight the Moonlight” debuted in 2000 and remained on the charts for 10 weeks. It peaked at #6 on Billboard’s top 100 and internationally it topped the charts in 11 countries, including Australia, Ireland and the United Kingdom.
Rimes has revealed four re-imagined tracks over the past few months gifts to fans and they will all be featured on her Re-Imagined EP that will release on June 20, 2018 by Sony Red/Thirty Tigers.
